There's
only one mission here at Freak Fest.... good times! My
name is Manny and I've been fortunate to travel the world
along side my compadres. Since that first trip to a foreign
country, I've been hounding my friends to get bit by the
travel bug. I found a way to make it easy for them to
enjoy some of what the world has to offer. After a two
year hiatus, I resurrected Cameron Steele's fun factory...
Cabo Freak Fest. Cabo San Lucas is so close yet so different.
But it's the perfect place to hold a gathering. A cultural
adverture. You will return home a new person after a Freak
Fest trip. Are you ready to have the time of your life?
Are you ready to break away from the daily routine? Browse
through the site and join me and others in Cabo and Bali
this year. -MV |

Event #7 of the IBA Hawaii Pro
Tour, proved to be all about the “stash”
as in mustache; Sandy Beach provided the contestants
with 2-3 ft. wind swell, coming out of the Southeast
and a nice and sunny 89 degree day. Over 80 of Hawaii’s
top Professional & Amateur bodyboarders congregated
to Half Point to show their skills. Starting at 7:30
am, the Pro’s were the first to take to the water,
taking advantage of the early morning high tide. Hollow
left’s and right’s were very well ridden
by all, but the early round standouts were Ikaika Villa,
David Hubbard, Wade Asato, Jeff Hubbard, Josh Wills,
the Romero Brothers, Jacob & Jonah and Happy Zurowski.
When noon came around, the lower tide exposed much of
Half Points very sharp and shallow reef, Jonah Romero’s
LMNOP board had a nice encounter with the reef, which
tore deep into the slick plastic bottom. As the day
moved on, the higher tide had come in and the riders
were busting huge on all sections, some of the days
top maneuvers were Jacob Romero’s ARS to Spin
to Rollo combo, getting him the first “10”
of the event, Jeff Hubbard’s huge Air(s) and David’s
(Hubbard) silky smooth Drop Knee floater into “Pipelittles”.
When it was all said and done, the person left standing
was the man sporting his new “Stash” David
Hubbard, winning both the Pro Open and DK Open Divisions;
during his acceptance speech, he thanked his new mustache
for both wins. I’d like to thank all the sponsors
who has help make this event possible, Custom X, Mike
Stewart Inc., Manta, LMNOP, BSD, Viper Surfing Fins,
Kicks Fins, ROT Magazine, Option Magazine, Crysis Magazine,
662mob.com and Honolulu Bodysurfing Club. I hope to
see you all at our Championship Event November 6-7;
the venue is still to be announced, please log on to

| PRESS
RELEASE: ABA Wrighsville Beach Pro/AM sponsored by Custom
X, Cartel, Viper, Savage and DVO
The ABA hosted contest # 3 at
the Crystal Pier in Wrightsville Beach, NC and had the
biggest turn out since the restart of the tour last
year. 16 Pro's battled it out for the $1000 cash purse
with $500 going to the winner. Waves held in 2-4' range
throughout the day with stiff offshores testing the
stability of the tents all day long.
Almost everybody got caught by the traffic from the
local Tri-Athalon on the way to the contest area so
things got off to a late start but,by then the swell
was starting to show up a little more.
The Pro Final was Ricky Miller and TJ Bonanno from Vah
Beach, Wrightsville Beach local former ESA All-star
Paul Loukas and Brazilian Jean Ferreira who now lives
and studies in New York. Jean had ripped all his prelims
but could'nt get a rythm and ended up 4th with $100
just behind Ricky Miller and his $150 who looked out
of sync as well. Paul and TJ looked like the ones to
beat all day with both guys picking off the best waves
and taking them the distance. In the end TJ barely squeeked
out the win taking the $500 bones with it, Paul got
a cool $250 for his efforts in the closest heat of the
day. Oversized checks make everbody smile !
Drop-Knee final was hottly contested with the old skoolers
showing up to support the cause. Longtime one knee rippers
from Va Beach Frankie Collins and John Yax dominated
the final taking 1st and 2nd respectively while out
gunning usual dk podium toppers Ryan Rhodes in 3rd and
TJ Bonanno 4th.
Pro runner-up Paul Loukas had enough gas in the tank
to take the Mens Final as well outlasting Vah Beacher
Mike Ziener 4th and OBXers Dan Cera 3rd and Ryan Rhodesn
2nd. It was good to see a local boy fair well and Paul
definetly let everybody know who he was and he had skills.
Unfortunetly the Menehune's final had to deal with the
town drunk flailing through the line-up in an attempt
to skimboard and get noticed. That's until the idiot
finally looked up and realized there were about 6 people
eyeing him up and he was about to get choked-out if
he kept on. None of which went noticed at all by the
hard charging group in the water who had there own hands
full with the fun little pealers rolling through. Anthony
Delcarpini from Va. Beach showed the boys how it was
done pullin in some barrels and finishing with some
clean 360's to seal the win. Cory Howell from WB placed
2nd and showed he is a force to be reconed with when
he wooed the crowd with his multiple stand-up and belly
360's Cory even entered the mens open and knocked somebody
off in that heat as well. Eric Ellisburg and Thomas
Hanna followed there leads up with 3rd and 4th.
Junior Men was once again dominated by OBXer James Joyce
who is undefeated in that division, Jeremy Meikle (3rd)
and Jared Cera(2nd) were hot on his heels.
And we were finally able to run a Womens final when
top Brazailian female Roberta Pinheiro, who is studying
for the semester in Conneticut showed up and challenged
WB local Shea Lindon for the ladys crown. Both riders
ripped but it was Roberta's 360 and El rollo combo's
that outpointed Shea 's Dk attack. Way to go ladies
!!
Masters was dominated by the Brazilians. Jean Ferreira
continued doing what got him to the Pro Final and edged
Siekiti Shinmon(2nd) Eric Anderson(3rd) had a nice stand-up
but a low wave count Bob Hovey had a game plan but could
get the waves he need and finished 4th.
Overall the event was a big success we had fun waves
and the turn-out is getting better with each event Pro
and Amatuer. Custom X and Cartel gave out Sick boards
to the winners Viper gave swinfins, Savage Clothing
flowed T's and Vid's, DVO and Bob n Tanya Hovey provided
super nice trophies from Bali once again. I want to
thank everybody who helped out setting up and breaking
down and in any other way like judging or changing the
flags upon request it goes along way. Hats off Ricky
Miller who hooked a whole crew up with styley and cheap
hotel rooms, also to the Brazalian crew for taking a
Bus all night long to be there and to everybody else
who made the tripno matter how far. With out your efforts
to show up compete and support the ABA none of this
happens. Keep showing up cause we promise its gonna
get better !! Ray
