Do I need to wax my board?

If you're new to bodyboarding, you may not realize that it's important to wax your bodyboard before riding it. You may have seen surfers wax surfboards to improve their grip. Well, the same goes for a bodyboard. We include a free bar of wax with all bodyboard purchases, or you can buy some right on our website.

Here's how to wax your board...
Start out by applying a light coat to the entire deck (that's the top of the board- the part you lay on) of your board and along the rails (sides) from the nose end of the board to about 1/2 way down the rails toward the tail. Make small strokes back and forth with the wax for best results. Finish up by applying a heavier coat of wax where your forearms and hands touch the board. You'll find that, depending on the water quality in your area, you will have to reapply every few sessions to keep from slipping off the board or losing your grip. Your wax will get dirtier over time, but don't worry...that won't affect your board's performance. If you can't handle that here are some tips to get the old wax off your board:

Wax removal?
Pick up a bottle of Sticky Bumps Wax Remover in our "accessories" section. Alternately, find an OUTDOOR hot shower, or boil a couple of kettles of water. Pour the hot water on the board and the wax should pour off too. Remember, if you do it in an indoor shower, the wax will clog the drain!!! Alternately, you can use a hair dryer at close range wiping the wax off with an old rag while it's still melted and hot.
